Eldest

With the celebration of his fourth birthday Wednesday, I thought I'd dedicate a post to our Abers. The night before his birthday, Ben and I were both in tears as we talked about Abe and how grateful we are for what he has given us these last four years. Mom always cursed me to have a daughter just like me, but I think I got a son instead. Abe was born with strong opinions about everything, and he's never been afraid to voice them.

Thankfully, he's as apt to show his joy as he is anything else.

Abe is a wonderful big brother. He loves Hank, and Hank adores him.

Abe loves food. LOVES it.

Abe's interests are quite varied.

He loves to play games - like Scrabble.

He loves to be outside, playing with sticks, grass, and leaves, doing what all little boys do - you know, forming letters.

Oh, here he is eating again. And making letters.

He loves to play with blocks...

...is there a theme here?

He loves art projects at school, such as painting and stamping - letters, what else?

Always fashion-conscious, he loves his letter bling.

In short, this kid is:

Happy 4th Birthday, Abe. We love you so much!

A sunbleached cucumber? A yellow squash? Either way, you probably shouldn't starve your kid and reduce him to stealing produce out of the community garden. LOVE the picture of Abe throwing a fit. My imagination is going wild trying to figure out what trivial circumstance pushed him over the edge. But my favorite picture is the leaves. He really is a happy kid. Congrats on 4 years of motherhood!

Okay, HE asked to eat that squash on the way home from the garden - he's done this several times. When he's in the garden, he'll eat anything picked from a vine, a plant, or that has leaves. Of course, as soon as we get it home and saute it, he sometimes has reservations.

As for the fit, it was actually justified for the first few minutes - he had just wiped out big time right as I was about to bring out the cake on his birthday. It's every other time he's cried about it since then that makes me crazy. But yeah, he's still a great kid, obviously.

Wow! Is he going to follow in Andy's footsteps? An English professor? I loved the tribute. I thought about you guys this week on his birthday. We miss you guys.

My eyes got a little weepy while reading. I love that little Abers! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. I miss that little guy. Are you guys going somewhere for Christmas? I'm sure you are. We will be coming to Colorado, but we will be coming early, so maybe we will get to see you! Let's try.
