At the aquarium and Abe's reading progress

Last week, we went to the Denver aquarium. Below is a picture of Abe standing in front of the piranha tank. I have copied some dialog from an older Mike Meyers movie. I felt it appropriate because, not only do these fish look like ill-tempered, mutated sea bass with laser eyes, but also because Abe, before he had grown any hair, had been compared to Lex Luther, the archetype to inspire "Dr. Evil."Dr. Evil: You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that cannot be done. Ah, would you remind me what I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here! What do we have?
Number Two: Sea Bass.
Dr. Evil: [pause] Right.
Number Two: They're mutated sea bass.
Dr. Evil: Are they ill tempered?
Number Two: Absolutely.
Dr. Evil: Oh well, that's a start.

Here's another picture of Abe looking at a fish from under a bubble viewer. In other Abe-related news, he has been eagerly sounding out and reading words-it, along with riding his bike, has become his favorite activity. At church we have him read words from the program; it is so exciting to see him so pleased with himself when he discovers what a particularly long word says. Last week, Stephanie was singing in our meeting and so I showed Abe where it said Fairbanks in the program and I told him "That is how you spell Fairbanks." He studied the word for a minute and asked me, a little disappointed, "Where's the 'X,' Papa?" I thought that Abe is right and that "Fairbanx" was a more concise spelling of our name and accordingly have changed the spelling on this blog.
Oh, and just yesterday Abe was reciting words that started with "Q": "queen, quiet, quoperate (cooperate)...." He's a lot of fun.

WOW, seeing your comment on my blog was such a fun surprise! I love blogs for that reason. I have considered going private with my blog a few times, but it is so cool when old friends find it and drop a line! Thanks!

You guys look like you are having so much fun! Hank is a beautiful little baby. And it looks like Abe is a very clever little boy. You can tell him that I think he should be able to spell his last name "Fairbanx."

I look forward to keeping up with you through your blog. If you want to email me my email is sharon@robertandsharon.com.

Great to hear from you. Sharon and I are looking forward to following all your adventures!

By the way, thanks also for the link to the Starfall site--we'll have to try that out with Jenna.
